Li Polymer Battery Production Process


Lipo batteries, also known as lithium polymer, lithium-ion polymer batteries, are a type of rechargeable battery that uses a polymer electrolyte instead of a liquid one. The production process of polymer batteries involves several key steps:


1. Material Preparation: The first step in producing a lithium polymer battery is to prepare the necessary materials, including the polymer electrolyte, lithium-ion cathode material, graphite anode material, and other components like current collectors and separators.

2. Cathode and Anode Preparation: The cathode and anode materials are coated onto current collectors, which are thin sheets of metal foil that facilitate the flow of electric current within the battery. The coating process involves applying a slurry containing the active material, binders, and solvents onto the current collector using techniques like doctor blade coating or slot die coating.

3. Drying and Pressing: After coating, the cathode and anode films are dried to remove any remaining solvents and then pressed to increase their density and improve adhesion to the current collector.

4. Separator Coating: A separator, typically made of a porous polymer film, is coated with the polymer electrolyte solution. This separator acts as an insulator between the cathode and anode while allowing lithium ions to pass through during charging and discharging.

5. Assembly: The cathode, separator, and anode layers are stacked together, usually with the cathode on top and the anode on the bottom. This stack is then wrapped in a protective outer layer, such as aluminum foil, to prevent damage and maintain the battery's structural integrity.

6. Injection Molding: The wrapped battery stack is placed into a mold and injected with molten polymer material. The Li-polymer solidifies around the battery stack, forming a protective case that also serves as part of the battery's structure.

7. Formation and Aging: The newly assembled polymer battery undergoes a formation process, which involves charging and discharging the battery several times to activate the electrodes and stabilize the electrolyte. After formation, the battery is aged for a period of time to ensure its performance and safety characteristics are consistent.

8. Testing and Quality Control: The final step in the production process is to test the Li-pol battery for capacity, voltage, impedance, and other critical parameters. Any batteries that do not meet the specified quality standards are removed, ensuring that only reliable and high-performing batteries are sold to consumers.
